ALL City Slam Championship
As a part of a partnership with the Mesa Arts Center, Phonetic Spit produces an All-City Poetry Slam that brings together students from various high schools and middles schools for a two-day event surrounding the platform youth voices.  This event is directly connected to our residency programs where PS teaching artist / Poet mentors work with in school based poetry clubs. At the end of residencies all the schools come together to battle it out to become the City-wide Slam Champions.

Young Voices Rise: Unified Slam
Building off of the success of our in-school and after-school workshops and assemblies, Phonetic Spit offers a twice a month youth development / creative writing & expression workshop followed by a unified SLAM. This is an exciting opportunity for students to perform, dialogue, and speak their minds with their peers throughout the valley. Participants of this SLAM will also have the opportunity to earn a spot on Phonetic Spit’s Brave New Voices Team.

Young Voice Rise: Unity Conference
The Young Voices Rise Unity conference creates a safe space to bring together the many diverse communities of youth across Arizona for a one-day conference designed to educate the participants on many different stereotypes surrounding race, ethnicity, culture and gender. The conference empowers our youth to see past their fears and recognize the similarities we all possess as the human race. In addition to workshops on stereotypes & unity, youth participate in creative writing and expression workshop designed to cultivate student’s personal identity and emotional literacy.
